New Leaf Technologies believes that impactful training has the power to change lives and sometimes, even save them. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to partner with St John in their bold mission to standardise first aid education through the Master Trainer Programme. This programme promises life-affirming initiatives that unites training leaders across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and the broaderEMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa).
It’s more than a training programme. It’s a movement towards First Aid excellence.
A Shared Vision for Global Training Excellence
The St John Master Trainer Programme is designed to build a skilled, standardised, and certified network of first aid trainers across the globe. With training hubs working together under a unified standard. The goal is to ensure that communities receive consistent, high-quality emergency care training, no matter where they are.
By fostering cross-border learning, championing quality assurance, and supporting trainer development with world-class CPD, the programme creates a ripple effect – strengthening local systems while scaling global impact.
The Master Trainer focuses on:
- Empowering master trainers as ambassadors of clinical excellence and education.
- Standardising first aid training through a common syllabus, quality controls, and adaptable delivery tools.
- Scaling impact by enabling more institutions and individuals to teach lifesaving skills with confidence and consistency.
Showcasing South Africa’s leadership in first aid innovation, delivery, and collaboration.
Why It Matters
Every second counts in an emergency. Whether responding to road accidents in Nairobi or delivering first responder education in Johannesburg, one thing remains true: great training saves lives.
But it’s not just about knowing what to do, it’s aboutdoing it correctly and with confidence.
That’s why standardising first aid training across regions is so critical. It ensures that:
- Every trainer teaches to the same high standard, no matter where they are.
- Learners across the globe receive consistent, quality-assured instruction.
- Skills are transferable, meaning trained individuals can respond effectively, whether they’re in Johannesburg or Kampala.
- Assessment and improvement become easier, as benchmarks and best practices are unified.
- Cross-border collaboration is strengthened, helping organisations like St John share innovations and elevate outcomes globally.
When training is standardised, communities become more resilient and first responders are better prepared to act decisively. It’s not just a technical upgrade, it’s a human one.
The Numbers Speak for Themselves
- Up to 59% of deaths from injuries could be prevented with timely first aid intervention. (World Health Organisation)
- Less than 1 in 20 people in many low- and middle-income countries have received formal first aid training. (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies)
- Cardiac arrest survival rates double or triple when bystanders are trained and perform CPR immediately. (American Heart Association)
A Week of Inspiration in Nairob
The second Master Trainer Programme recently took place in Nairobi, Kenya, where first aid leaders from across East Africa gathered to learn, share, and grow. This milestone event marked another step towards unified global standards in emergency care education. An incredible achievement that speaks to the commitment and passion of every facilitator and partner involved.
Within EMEA, we have three Training hubs,:
- South Africa headed by Saroj Rajoo
- England headed by Lisa Sharman
- Kenya headed by Andrew Wanjohi

As Saroj Rajoo shared, “We’re doing this because it matters. Because the people who train others deserve excellence. And because the people we serve deserve consistent, world-class care.”
Looking Ahead: Johannesburg, October 2025
The journey is far from over. The next edition of the Master Trainer Programme will take place in Johannesburg in October 2025, further cementing the role of South Africa as a leader in building global systems of care and collaboration. Delegates will include individuals from; South Africa, Mauritius and Malawi*.
