All You Need to Know About Learning Management Systems

The term Learning Management System (LMS) is often completely foreign to those who aren’t in the eLearning industry. Even if you don’t quite know what it is, it’s very likely that you’ve used at least one LMS without even knowing it. But what exactly does this alien term mean, and what is it used for?

By definition, an LMS is a software application that is used to manage, track, report and deliver training. These systems are suitably used in corporate or training provider environments, as well as with eLearning or facilitator-led courses.

In addition to providing comprehensive reporting, an LMS is designed to simplify the process of building a course, capturing learner details, and planning/assessing training events, ensuring a simplified client and user experience.

Learning management systems are rising in popularity with the progression of technology, meaning that there is always a vast array to choose from. New Leaf Technologies offer cloud-based systems, meaning that the LMS is accessible via a website, from anywhere in the world. This kind of LMS is particularly cost-effective and offers the software as a service (SaaS), which means that it does not require the installation of specific hardware. Cloud-based learning management systems allow clients to dodge upkeep, ongoing work and additional costs, all the while remaining secure and user-friendly.

Using an LMS can significantly reduce training costs and the time which is spent on training, which frees up these resources to be used on other tasks. The simple answer for who uses an LMS is anyone who requires training delivers. Essentially, anyone who hires anyone, particularly at larger scales, can benefit greatly from an LMS.
